• Pack the heaviest items in the pack closest to your spine.
  • Pack the smaller, lighter items on the outside of the pack.
  • It is easier and less strenuous to lift a backpack if it is being lifted from a table or chair.
  • Bend your knees when lifting a backpack off the ground.
  • Put on one strap at a time.
  • Backpacks should weigh no more than 10 – 15% of your body weight.
